History

The Chapel of St. Michael, formerly known as "St. Michael's Chapel", is the oldest chapel in Good Shepherd Parish, even older than the parish itself. Originally under the jurisdiction of St. Joseph Parish (Bamboo Organ), The Chapel of St. Michael was a very modest structure in 1962, with the lot donated by Capt. Felix and Aurora Ver Gonzales, the owner- developer of Vergonville Subdivision. The chapel metamorphosed into a rousing edifice after building extensions, renovations, tiling, other furnishings, and landscaping. Generous members of the chapel community financially supported the frontage makeover in time for its Fiesta in September of last year (2018), coinciding with the Feast of St Michael, the Archangel.

2008 Renovation & 2016 Renovation

2008 Renovation

The faithful parishioners first witnessed its coming of age when in 2008, the wall of the sanctuary was altered. With the major face-lift made possible by generous donors, the main altar wall is now adorned by a larger-than-life-sized crucifix at the center. The crucifix is in between (2) stained-glass windows depicting the two of the mysteries of the Holy Rosary, namely the "Institution of the Eucharist" and the "Descent of the Holy Spirit upon Mary and the Apostles". For the first time in years, the morning rays of the sun now seep into the sanctuary through the stained glass windows.

2016 Renovation

The renovation started in September 2016, when Fr. German (Parish Priest) had a vision of a bigger, sturdier, contemporary and modern chapel. After announcing this during masses of his plan, a family of architects and engineers who are chapel goers approached him and eventually provided blueprints with a new and modern design concept for the chapel. Arch. Roco E. Lodronio, his father Engr. Rico Lodronio and their partners in the family-owned REL Builders and Design pledged their services sans professional fees.

A chapel marker now embellishes the chapel entrance after it was blessed by the Bishop Jesse Mercado D.D

Architecture

A distinct feature of the chapel is its quality-carved wooden fixtures like the narra tabernacle base, the ambos, St. Michael's plinth, the celebrant's chair, among others which were donated by a generous family in the village. As such, the chapel acquired the pseudonym, the "Narra Chapel". The floor tiles complement the narra furnishings and the chapel manifests a generally serene ambiance, making it conducive to prayer, praise, and worship.
